| for Manitoba kayakers. Nakka Falls (Farmers Rapids), Oak Falls and Cooks Falls are avidly used as whitewater kayaking teaching sites. Their grade of class two to three promises a solid stage for both novice and expert. A visit to watch the action will never disappoint. Plans at the Cooks Falls facility are being sought to further improve its waterflow, in the hope of attracting even more enthusiasts to the sport. Another recreation outlet being pursued is a hiking/biking trail from Elma to Seven Sisters which would be a great way to see the RM of Whitemouth from north to south. One of the Centennial 2005 projects is the construction of a proposed Walking Trail from River Hills to Seven Sisters. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2006. A walking track is nearing completion at the River Hills Community grounds. This track will be open to the public and picnic tables and a shelter will be on site. Whether on a bike, hiking or on a canoe, a more picturesque day out would be hard to find. As you follow the river north, the land curves and undulates through the forest and hills as you sight Blue Herons, Bald Eagles, indigenous song birds and various waterfowl - a bird watchers delight. Pause at a rest stop or portage at the falls in front of you, then watch as seasons change, colours dazzle and the water glistens. Autumn leaves turn, the snow arrives - suddenly its time to enjoy the great winter activities in the RM of Whitemouth. Winter Activities |
